For those eager to sample the area's history, Absecon Lighthouse is an ideal spot. Absecon light is New Jersey's tallest lighthouse, located at the junction of Pacific and Rhode Island Avenues in Atlantic City, within walking distance of the Showboat Casino. Take a trip back in time up the 228 steps of the Absecon Lighthouse. The light is one of the oldest in the country, and it truly is a masterful object. Panoramic views of the Atlantic City skyline and a close inspection of the original first-order Fresnel Lens, at the top of the lighthouse, will charm you beyond words. The light was first lit in 1857. The lighthouse recently received a multi-million dollar restoration complete with an educational museum and gift shop, and a Fresnel Lens exhibit in the original Oil House and surrounding grounds.

If a more cultural trip around Atlantic City is what you desire, try the Garden Pier. The Garden Pier houses both the Atlantic City Historical Museum and the Atlantic City Art Center. Enjoy the extensive collections and libraries of photographs and memorabilia, and listen as the museum tells the tale of Atlantic City's rise from the sand dunes to being "Queen of Resorts" on the east coast. The art center contains galleries and also hosts concerts and interesting readings. Admission is free.

If nature is your thing, then you must go to the Atlantic City Aquarium. The Aquarium is actually accessible to the public via boat, and has become a center for social gatherings and a great settings for parties and meetings. Located in the Historic Gardner's Basin, the fabulous Aquarium provides a blend of educational and fun-filled activities involving the over 100 varieties of fish and marine animals houses there. The Atlantic City Aquarium's eight tanks hold 29,800 gallons of water, packed with live exhibits. The Fish of the New Jersey Coast Aquarium is the main attraction for some. The Jersey Coast Aquarium holds 23,000 gallons and contains tiger sharks, stingray, bluefish, and kingfish. There is a 750-gallon Touch Tank via which visitors can handle multicolored crabs, mussels, shrimp, sea-stars, and periwinkles. There are computerized interactive stations, and a 16-station Ocean Life Education Center for visitors to explore. Atlantic City would not be Atlantic City if it didn't feature such a grand aquarium.
